Amazake

Hi everyone! How have you been?

My mother sends me food and drinks from time to time and this time she sent me a bottle of Amazake!

Have you heard of Amazake? 甘酒 /amazake/ literally means sweet sake (sake – a Japanese alcoholic drink made with rice) but actually, most of the Amazake you can find is non-alcoholic, or as low as 1% alcohol by volume.

It’s made with rice and rice malt. Traditionally, we drink it at New Year’s. The hot amazake is a perfect drink in a cold winter in Japan.

Ok, I said it’s a perfect drink for cold weather. But we got the bottle in the middle of summer! In fact, it’s also nice to drink it chilled. I put it in the fridge so cannot wait to taste it later 🙂
