Particle を

Before we start, here is a quick note. The particle を is written “wo” or “o” in alphabet, and pronounced as “o” in speech. The particle を always goes with the transitive verb to mark the direct object in a sentence.

Direct object of the movement

映画えいがを観みます。
/eiga o mimasu/
I watch a film.

コーヒーを注文ちゅうもんします。
/koohii o chuumon shimasu/
I order a coffee.

顔かおを洗あらいます。
/kao o araimasu/
I wash my face.

音楽おんがくを聴ききます。
/ongaku o kikimasu/
I listen to music.

友達ともだちからの連絡れんらくを待まっています。
/tomodachi kara no renraku o matte imasu/
I am waiting for my friend to contact me.

あの絵えを見みてください。
/ano e o mite kudasai/
Please look at that painting.

電気でんきを消けしてください。
/denki o keshite kudasai/
Please turn off the light.

画面がめんの「はい」をクリックしてください。
/gamen no “hai” o kurikku shite kudasai/
Please click on “yes” on the screen.

Starting point of the movement

電車でんしゃを降おります。
/densha o orimasu/
I get off the train.

もうすぐ日本にほんを離はなれます。
/moosugu nihon o hanaremasu/
I am leaving Japan soon.

来年らいねん高校こうこうを卒業そつぎょうします。
/rainen koukou o sotsugyoo shimasu/
I am graduating from high school next year.

Movement of the transfer

そこの角かどを曲まがってください。
/soko no kado o magatte kudasai/
Please turn that corner.

橋はしを渡わたります。
/hashi o watarimasu/
I cross the bridge.

坂道さかみちを登のぼります。
/sakamichi o noborimasu/
I climb up the hill.

Time and place that are passed

だらだらと1日いちにちを過すごしてしまいました。
/daradara to ichinichi o sugoshite shimai mashita/
I spent a day being lazy (against my plan).

ちょうど12時じゅうにじを回まわったところです。
/choodo juuniji o mawatta tokoro desu/
It’s just after 12 o’clock.

友達ともだちの家いえの前まえを通とおり過すぎました。
/tomodachi no ie no mae o toori sugimashita/
I passed in front of my friend’s house.
