Do you like to eat? I do! We need some vocabulary to describe tastes in Japanese. Let’s look at the words which are related to ‘5 Basic Tastes.’
苦味 /nigami/ Bitterness
I-Adjective: 苦い /niga-i/ Bitter
苦いコーヒーが好きです。
I like bitter coffee.
塩味 /enmi/ Saltiness
I-Adjective: しょっぱい /shoppa-i/ Salty
しょっぱいものを食べすぎると体に悪いです。
It’s unhealthy to eat too much salty food.
酸味 /sanmi/ Sourness
I-Adjective: すっぱい /suppa-i/ Sour
このオレンジ、すっぱすぎて食べられない。
This orange is too sour and I can’t eat it.
甘味 /kanmi/ Sweetness
I-Adjective: 甘い /ama-i/ Sweet
