動詞の使役形 – Verb Causative Form –

Let’s work on passive, causative, and causative passive forms! I will divide it into 3 posts to explain the grammar points on (1) passive, (2) causative, and (3) causative passive.

使役しえき：他ほかの人ひとの行為こういや感情かんじょうを促うながす
Causative: To induce behaviour or incite feelings in another person

Point 1: Force or cause somebody (or animal) to do something

私わたしの彼女かのじょはいつも待まち合あわせ時間じかんに遅おくれるので私わたしを待またせます。
My girlfriend is always late and makes me wait.

後のちほど、部下ぶかにお電話でんわで連絡れんらくさせます。
I will let my assistant give you a phone call later.

公園こうえんで犬いぬにボールを取とりに行いかせました。
I made my dog fetch a ball in the park.

今日きょうはとても疲つかれていたので子供こどもたちに家事かじを手伝てつだわせました。
I was very tired today so made my children help with some housework.

荷物にもつが多おおかったので、弟おとうとを駅えきまで迎むかえに来こさせました。
I made my little brother pick me up at the station because I had a lot of things to carry.

Point 2: Allow somebody to do something

具合ぐあいが悪わるいので、今日きょうは早はやめに帰かえらせていただいてもよろしいでしょうか？
I am feeling unwell so may I leave earlier today?

あなたの職務履歴しょくむりれきについて聞きかせてください。
Please tell me about your career history.

母親ははおやが赤あかちゃんにご飯はんを食たべさせてあげています。
A mother is feeding her baby.

意見いけんを言いわせていただいてもよろしいでしょうか？
May I say my opinion?

工場こうじょうを特別とくべつに見学けんがくさせてもらいました。
I had a chance to visit and look around the factory exceptionally.

※ For this specific point, the verbs are formed together with 〜てあげる、〜てもらう、〜くれる.

Point 3: Cause somebody to feel an emotion

彼女かのじょを泣なかせてしまいました。
I made my girlfriend cry.

田中たなかさんは面白おもしろい人ひとで、いつも皆みんなを笑わらわせてくれます。
Tanaka-san is a fun person and always makes everyone laugh.

仕事しごとでミスをして上司じょうしを怒おこらせてしまいました。
I made a mistake at work and got my boss angry.

家族かぞくをがっかりさせたくないです。
I don’t want to let my family down.

この本ほんはとても面白おもしろくて、私わたしを最後さいごまで飽あきさせませんでした。
This book was very interesting and never left me bored until the end.
